My interest in creating portraits is as much in articulating an emotional or psychological moment as a likeness to the subject. The figures in my work are usually solo, and often in moments of reflection, and the mood is often subtly (or not so subtly) leaning towards the otherworldly. I'm repeatedly drawn to moments where the banal and mystical meet. Moments of transcendence. I seek those moments through the practice of studying and painting others, both those I know, and those I don't.
