Anne Sherwood Pundyk
By mirroring the fickle coherence of sensation, perception and memory, my work re-images source material -- found and taken photographs -- in paint. In "My Atlas," (http://www.blurb.com/user/store/Annesbooks) books I publish for each painting, I describe how and why the images have come to my attention for use as subjects. The paintings recall the strangeness and fallibility of human understanding. They can also remind us that being boldly skeptical may be the best way to stay afloat.
Born in Manhattan, I moved often between the two coasts, having now settled and raising my family here.
In the fall of 2010 my work will be included in, “The Art of Captivity” at Fordham University, New York, NY. Recent exhibitions include Susan Eley Fine Art, New York, NY; Art Miami, Miami, FL; and The Philoctetes Center, New York, NY. Others include DFN Gallery, New York, NY; Elaine Benson Gallery, Bridgehampton, NY; Guild Hall Museum, East Hampton; Nichols Gallery, Barboursville, VA; University of Virginia, Charlottesville, VA; and Washington & Lee University, Lexington, VA.
I have lectured at Fordham University, Manhattan Marymount College, Sotheby's Art Institute; and at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA.
