Artist's Statement

I seek to disrupt ordinary mental categorizations, ordinary modes of perceiving and valuing, considering western views of science and nature through an anthropological perspective. I function as a magnet, bringing together materials and objects intrinsic to and symbolic of disparate areas of space and time. The final outcome are amalgamations and conglomerations, composed using a strange logic to craft physical and metaphorical connections.

The completed sculptural works rest on the line between the time in the past when the parts were nothing special and the time when together they have become something arresting. The finalized forms, imbued with the intrigue of mystery, engage the viewer in a process of material and conceptual discovery parallel to my own. I want the viewer to become comfortable with cognitive dissonance, and then have it slip away.
