Somewhere In Queens

I initially started shooting Queens to get better acquainted with where I was living when I first arrived, but the project turned into something more. Having grown up in Chicago, the borough was very different to me at first – an unfamiliar urban/suburban sprawl. Most people I talked to had only visited to see the Mets or to fly out of the city. Few friends lived in Queens either, so although close to Brooklyn and Manhattan, at times it felt a world away. While I do not feel entirely like a local, or a tourist, an unexpected bond has been formed, one that I will carry with me wherever else I may choose to explore in the future. For me, these photographs serve as a personal guidebook to the borough.
