Short films by Cao Guimarães

July 16–July 25, 2011

In conjunction with Premiere Brazil!, MoMA PS1 presents a program of short films by Cao Guimarães (Brazilian, b. 1965). This portion of the festival introduces a series of shorts, made in the last decade, that highlight Guimarães’s evocative, nuanced cinematic vision. Focusing on everyday events and quiet actions in both urban and rural settings—from billowing tarps to an army of ants to soap bubbles—the artist creates captivating moving pictures that are firmly rooted in the everyday, yet somehow suggest a universe of possibilities. The films screen continuously throughout the day.
