Saturday, October 23, 2010
4:00 PM to 6:00 PM
ARTBOOK @MoMA PS1 hosts the launching of Hans Ulrich Obrist's recent publication, Interviews, Volume 2 (Edited by Charles Arsène-Henry, Shumon Basar, Karen Marta. Published by Charta) historian Eric Hobsbawm.
Interviews, Volume 2 includes 70 interviews featuring insightful dialogues with a diverse group of cultural thinkers across many disciplines and spanning many decades including in chronological order: Nathalie Sarrraute, Studs Terkel, Czeslaw Milosz, Merce Cunningham, Doris Lessing, Richard Hamilton, Alain Robbe-Grillet, Benoit Mandelbrot, Kazuo Shinohara, Emmett Williams, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Jacques Herzog, Arto Lindsay Michel Houellebecq, Björk, Miranda July and Ai Wei Wei. People who span a century and represent the shifting political and cultural geographies of our still young century. The partialness of this collection is completely in line with the dynamic and growing nature of Obrist’s Interview Project. Encyclopedic in scope but intimate in tone, these exchanges provoke unexpected torrents of biographical trajectories, theoretical adventurings and inklings of projects to come.
The New York launch at MoMA PS1 will include artist Paul Chan interviewing Obrist; a conversation about the Interview Project with MoMA PS1 Director Klaus Biesenbach, and a new interview by Obrist with astronomer Dimitar Sasselov. Terence Koh will give a special performance to celebrate the ongoing Interview Project. Additionally, there will be a 7 minute video portrait of Hans Ulrich Obrist created by Marina Abramovic.
