Saturday, March 20, 2010
4:00 PM to 6:00 PM

Thomas Lax and Zavé Martohardjono host this weekend's Saturday Sessions featuring a performance and a DJ set by Designer Imposter and a performance by Omega Jarden. Performances begin at 4pm; set begins at 5pm in the 3rd Floor Main Gallery.

Designer Imposter aka Ramdasha Bikceem has been DJing and hosting parties in New York, San Francisco, Toronto and Berlin for the last fifteen years. Growing up listening to Sinead O'Connor, Poly Styrene, Prince and Grace Jones, she spins a mix of dance-pop, dance-punk and gay dance music. In addition to DJing, Designer Imposter is an artist, musician and songwriter whose concerns span political freedom, personal growth and pure romance to coalesce in what the artist names as “the rainbow after the apocalypse.” She has performed at several art spaces, including Longwood Arts Project and Dixon Place.

Omega Jarden is a performance art collective from Brooklyn, New York. Founded in 2008 by Zoie Omega and Ava Jarden, Omega Jarden is made up of a live mix of musicians, dancers and light, sound and video artists. Melding experimental noise with club thumpers, Omega Jarden is a musical cavalcade. Their sound moves from lonely bleak landscapes to all-out neo-disco elation. Omega Jarden has performed at a variety of venues, including Santos Party House, Coco66 and The Glasslands Gallery.

Thomas Lax is a curator, writer and scholar. He is Curatorial Assistant at the Studio Museum in Harlem and is on the board of the political youth organization Fierce!

Zavé Martohardjono is a video artist and videographer who has directed and performed in a variety of experimental and documentary films. An independent producer of cultural events in the trans and queer community, Zavé is currently working as part of an artist collective on a new-media reinterpretation of the classical Greek tragedy Antigone.
