October 19- May 3: Thursday Performances by Bibi Calderaro of Minus Space
Sunday, May 3, 2009
1:00 PM to 4:00 PM
In conjunction with the exhibition of Reductive art presented by the Brooklyn-based collective Minus Space, Bibi Calderaro will perform the work PRESENT, every Thursday from 3pm to 6pm through May 3 in the P.S.1 Café .
PRESENT is an action that touches on the flow of ideas. In the piece, the artist reads books about seemingly unrelated topics and writes her instantaneous responses in a typewriter, which are then offered to the public. The written word is the main element, the artist a medium for thought.
Reductive art is characterized by minimalism and abstraction in its use of monochromatic color, geometry, and pattern. As a movement concentrating on abstraction, Minus Space bucks the trend toward figuration that took hold in the 1990s. For P.S.1, Minus Space has brought together 54 artists working internationally, ranging from Australia to Brazil to New York City, for a dense and playful show in the Café and Basement Boiler Room, two of the museum's most unique and intriguing exhibition spaces.
*Please note: The live performance will not take place on the weekends of December 20 and 21, December 27 and 28, and January 3 and 4. On those dates the artist will be interacting only via fax.
