August 22 Warm Up: Brennan Green, John Selway, Tim Love Lee, Talibam!, and The Phenomenal Handclap Band
Saturday, August 22, 2009
2:00 PM to 9:00 PM
Today's Warm Up features an impressive five-act lineup, boasting Brennan Green (Chinatown), John Selway (CSM), Tim Love Lee (Tummy Touch), Talibam!, and The Phenominal Handclap Band.
With a melodic and grooving sound, DJ/producer Brennan Green distills a vibrant, quirky energy from the pleasantly warped clash between disco, punk-funk, and dance.
The son of two music teachers, DJ John Selway is one of electronic music's most prolific and stylistically varied artists and producers. His style pulls together a multitude of influences, from deep house to synth-pop, minimal techno to trance and electro-funk.
It was in Nottingham, England where the young vinyl enthusiast Tim 'Love' Lee burst onto the European house scene with Balearic beats. This veteran of the club circuit is known for an earthy sound that is equal parts disco throwback, 70's porn groove, and acid-funk.
With a band name ripped from a New York Post headline celebrating U.S. bombings in Afghanistan, Talibam! is the irreverent Brooklyn-based indie rock duo of Matt Mottel (synthesizer) and Kevin Shea (drums). Their music is raucous, agile, and tough to categorize with an improvisational and ebullient live dynamic.
A self-described "musical juggernaut," The Phenomenal Handclap Band is a musical collective whose members are drawn from New York's indie rock and underground soul scenes. "More akin to a spiritual church revival than an actual rock show," their live performances are an overwhelming spectacle accompanied by a highly danceable clash of psychedelic, electro, disco and prog rock sounds.
