November 15: Poetry Reading and Book Signing with Quincy Troupe

In conjunction with the exhibition NeoHooDoo: Art for a Forgotten Faith, Poet Laureate Quincy Troupe will read select poems from his body of work followed by a book signing with artbook @ P.S.1.

Quincy Troupe is the author of seventeen books, including eight volumes of poetry. His newest book of poems is The Architecture of Language, the recipient of the 2007 Paterson Award for Sustained Literary Achievement. In 2006 Mr. Troupe was co-author with Chris Gardner of a New York Times best-selling book, The Pursuit of Happyness. Quincy Troupe was featured in the “The Living Language” segment of Bill Moyers' Emmy award-winning The Power of the Word series . Other distinctions include a Peabody Award for co-producing and writing the Miles Davis Radio Project, which aired on NPR. In addition, Troupe is editor of Black Renaissance/Renaissance Noire, a literary journal published by the Institute of Africana Studies at New York University.

NeoHooDoo: Art for a Forgotten Faith, co-organized by The Menil Collection of Houston, Texas, brings together a multigenerational group of North, South, and Central American artists who address the value of ritual in the artistic process and the wider implications of spirituality in contemporary art.
