Modules: Liz Magic Laser hosts an afternoon of performances
1–4 PM
The MoMA PS1 Performance Dome
For Modules, Liz Magic Laser curated an afternoon of new performances that continue her investigation of transformative appropriation methods: Kasper Akhøj lectures on an intriguing modular display system that was ubiquitous in Communist Yugoslavia, Rita Sobral Campos presents a peculiar reorganization of logic in a film screening with live musical accompaniment, Dafna Maimon stages absurdist vignettes that interweave Stendhal syndrome with maneuvers from sci-fi films, and Tristan Shepherd creates a composition for voice and electronics using language from commercial radio station IDs. Laser also presents her latest performance, The Digital Face, in which two dancers re-enact the oratorical gestures of President Barack Obama and former President George H. W. Bush.
Schedule of Performances:
1:00–2:00 · Kasper Akhøj
2:00–2:20 · Rita Sobral Campos
2:30–3:00 · Dafna Maimon
3:15–3:30 · Liz Magic Laser with dancers Alan Good and Cori Kresge
3:30–4:00 · Tristan Shepherd

Doug Aitken: Sleepwalkers Box Launch in collaboration with DFA Records

5–7 PM
The MoMA PS1 Performance Dome
For the launch of the multimedia publication, sleepwalkers box, musical directors Hisham Akira Bharoocha and Jonathan Galkin create a live percussion and electronic score alongside visuals from Doug Aitken's 2007 MoMA installation, sleepwalkers, on multiple video projections inside the MoMA PS1 Performance Dome. The performance incorporates prerecorded music from the box soundtrack, which includes unreleased tracks by Broadcast and others. The soundtrack weaves in and out of the live drumming, set to the videos, to create an all-immersive sonic and visual experience.
A commemorative poster by the artist and Princeton Architectural Press will be distributed free at the event.
ABOUT SUNDAY SESSIONS
