June 5: Performances by Maria Petschnig, Amy Yao with Jacob Robichaux, and Darren Bader with Brian Belott

Saturday, June 5, 2010
3:00 PM to 6:00 PM

In conjunction with the Greater New York, a series of weekend performances will take place throughout the building for the run of the exhibition, on view through October 18.

3pm: Maria Petschnig - Family Begutz

Maria Petschnig’s performance Family Begutz explores notions of fantasy through a complex set of personal images and cultural associations. Hidden behind a curtain, Petschnig enacts different scenarios and gestures that are presented via a camera and projector to the audience in the adjacent gallery. By juxtaposing intimate and found photographs with actions that persistently shift between the sensual and the grotesque, Petschnig questions and blurs distinctions between public and private. The performance will take place in the 3rd Floor Archive Galleries.

4pm: Amy Yao with Jacob Robichaux - Ghost of Birthdays Past

Working from a shared interest in the vernaculars of party supplies, magic tricks, jokes, didactic materials, still life, and abstraction, Jacob Robichaux and Amy Yao's ongoing collaborative performances explore play, visual puns, chance and the absurd. The performance will include a special appearance by Baby Boo. The performance will take place in the 1st Floor Main Gallery.

5pm:
Darren Bader recommends - Brian Belott, Apparent Wuzzup Fluid performs. The performance will take place on the 2nd Floor.
